Climate Depot Special Report
Climate Depot Note: The UN is rapidly trying to expand its climate regulatory reach. The 2015 UN touted the Paris climate pact which was supposed to save the planet, but alas, it turns out it was not enough according to the UN. (See: UN admits ‘historic’ Paris climate pact did not save Earth after-all! Now says: Cutting CO2 ‘not enough’ – ‘We must change food production to save the world’).
The UN is now also pushing a global environmental pact. See:UN Paris agreement ‘on steroids’- France and UN push for new legally binding global treaty on environment & UN Pushes for ‘Paris Agreement on Steroids’
The UN has also expanded into trying to regulate land use with a species extinction scare. See: Video & Submitted Written Congressional Testimony of Marc Morano – Examining UN Species/Climate Report – UN report is ‘authoritative propaganda’
And now, the UN is trying to morph into a global food police as they try and expand their regulatory power to include food production!

Here we go again. Yet another UN report claiming we must follow its dictates or face certain climate change doom.
Nature reports: “Efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions and the impacts of global warming will fall significantly short without drastic changes in global land use, agriculture and human diets, leading researchers warn in a high-level report commissioned by the United Nations.”
Climate Depot note: They now claim that the UN’s efforts “will fall significantly short”. It is odd and predictable that the UN Paris pact — which was hailed as saving the planet in 2015 — is now considered woefully inadequate by the UN. See: UN admits ‘historic’ Paris climate pact did not save Earth after-all! Now says: Cutting CO2 ‘not enough’ – ‘We must change food production to save the world’
The report continued: Hans-Otto Pörtner, an ecologist who co-chairs the IPCC’s working group on impacts, adaptation and vulnerability. “But it would indeed be beneficial, for both climate and human health, if people in many rich countries consumed less meat, and if politics would create appropriate incentives to that effect.” … “It’s really exciting that the IPCC is getting such a strong message across,” says Ruth Richardson, the Toronto, Canada-based executive director at the Global Alliance for the Future of Food, a strategic coalitions of philanthropic foundations. “We need a radical transformation, not incremental shifts, towards a global land use and food system that serves our climate needs.” … António Guterres, the UN’s climate secretary, said last week that it is “absolutely essential” to implement that landmark agreement ― and “to do so with an enhanced ambition”. …
The special report on climate and land by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) describes plant-based diets as a major opportunity for mitigating and adapting to climate change ― and includes a policy recommendation to reduce meat consumption.
End excerpt.

Climate Depot’s Marc Morano Note: This is yet another report from UN IPCC intended to empower UN bureaucrats to centrally plan our lives for no impact on the climate. But climate activists are already interpreting the report as a call for “ecosocialism.”
Activist Eric Holthaus wrote: “Today’s IPCC is a call for ecosocialism. Global agriculture will have to rapidly shift from an extractive industrial system based on an annual planting and harvesting cycle to a more perennial system based on regenerating soil.”

Correction: Another major bullsh*t report from UN @IPCC_CH tomorrow on how we can empower UN bureaucrats to centrally plan our lives for no impact on the climate
— Marc Morano (@ClimateDepot) August 8, 2019
In case the report was not clear, “appropriate incentives” are UN bureaucrat speak for taxes, regulations and central planning. See: Sausage-loving Germans chew over meat tax ‘to help protect the climate’
The UN agenda on meat and altering the world to their vision has been stated very clearly by UN officials.
Flashback: Former UN Climate Chief: Meat eaters should be banished, treated ‘the same way that smokers are treated” – “How about restaurants in 10-15 years start treating carnivores the same way that smokers are treated?” Figueres suggested during a recent conference. “If they want to eat meat, they can do it outside the restaurant.”
Bjorn Lomborg reacts: That’s because your hamburger is being blamed for climate change. Meat production — especially raising cattle — emits methane and requires carbon-dioxide-intensive inputs. In the breathless language of recent reporting, a “huge reduction in meat-eating is essential” to avoid “climate breakdown.”
Amazingly, in the 1970s, experts blamed “global cooling” for a coming “food crisis”.
Flashback 1974: U.S. Government’s Top Climatologist Said ‘Global Cooling’ Threatened Us With ‘Severe Food Crisis’ – ‘Global cooling is causing erratic weather changes…early frosts from Texas to the Dakotas, typhoons in India, drought in Siberia…are evidence of the unfavorable shifts in the Earth’s climate’
And it is not just taxes and regulations and lifestyle mandates that are being enacted and proposed. Some things are much more frightening.
Then, we have very frightening activists proposing new “solutions” to correct meat-eaters. See: NYU Bioethicist Prof. Liao on Eating meat: Seeks to ‘Make ourselves allergic to those proteins…unpleasant reaction…The way we can do that is to create some sort of meat patch’ – ‘Kind of like a nicotine patch where you put it on before you go to dinner go out to a restaurant and this will curb your enthusiasm for eating meat’.
Still not willing to put in a meat patch to stop your cravings for meat? Well, there is a solution to that too. If you don’t care about stopping eating meat, you can take drugs to make you care!
Liao proposed “pharmacological enhancement of altruism and empathy…could increase the likelihood that we adopt the necessary behavioral & market solutions for curbing climate change.” He envisions a way to induce an allergy to meat, to help people reduce their consumption of animals.
And, If you are hostile to such plans, while they have a plan for that too. See: “The last modification that Liao talks about: empathy. Liao’s idea is to give hormones like oxytocin and serotonin to people, and to perhaps decrease someone’s testosterone.”
There is also a major climate activist pushed move to force eating insects on people. See:
GLOBAL WARMING: Eating INSECTS ‘could help tackle climate change’ – Replacing half of the meat eaten worldwide with crickets and mealworms would cut farmland use by a third, substantially reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, researchers say. While consumers’ reluctance to eat insects may limit their consumption, even a small increase would bring benefits, the team says. This could potentially be achieved by using insects as ingredients in some pre-packaged foods.

The scientific premise of the UN and Green New Deal’s policy
New research finds methane virtually irrelevant as a greenhouse gas – Physicist Dr. Tom Sheahen: “Worrying about methane emissions is the greatest waste of time in the entire lexicon of global warming fanaticism. Converting methane to CO2 is done by the process of “flaring” — setting fire to the stack gas coming off from an oil well, as is done daily throughout the middle east, where the oil is valued but the CH4 is not…The number ‘Global Warming Potential’ is completely false, a nonsense calculation thought up by the IPCC to drum up more concern beyond just CO2.”
‘GREEN NEW DEAL’ LOOKS TO TACKLE THE SCOURGE OF ‘FARTING COWS’
Lomborg: Don’t let vegetarian environmentalists shame you for eating meat. Science is on your side – In a first world setting, the reality is that going entirely vegetarian for the rest of your life means you reduce your emissions by about 2%, according to a study of the environmental impact of Swedish vegetarians. To put this into context: either you could go vegetarian for the rest of your life, or you could reduce your emissions by the exact same amount by spending a little more than $3 a year using the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, the first mandatory market-based program in the United States covering several states to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Given all of this, it seems downright mean-spirited of the Manchester University scientists to try to shame people for having a summer barbecue.
STUDY: Vegetarian Diets ‘Worse’ For ‘Climate Change’ – Three Times ‘More Harmful to the Environment’ – Carnegie Mellon Study: ‘Eating lettuce is over three times worse in greenhouse gas emissions than eating bacon.’ – ‘Lots of common vegetables require more resources per calorie than you would think. Eggplant, celery and cucumbers look particularly bad when compared to pork or chicken.’
UK Warmist George Monbiot: ‘Beef is like a loaded gun, pointed at the living world’
Of course, the war on meat-eating also includes the ubiquitous climate tipping points. UK greenie George Monbiot 2002 warned we only had 10 years! ‘Famine can only be avoided if the rich give up meat, fish and dairy’ — Now only 7 Months Left Until Starvation Sets In! — Monbiot on December 24, 2002: ‘Within as little as 10 years, the world will be faced with a choice: arable farming either continues to feed the world’s animals or it continues to feed the world’s people. It cannot do both’

Climate Depot’s note to Monbiot: “To borrow a phrase from former President Obama. Yes we can.” Did I mention Obama? See: Flashback 2011: Ignoring the advice of the NASA’s Hansen and IPCC’s Pachauri, The First Green President Obama serves plenty of meat at the White House
In 2006, a UN report blamed cows for global warming: See: Cow ’emissions’ more damaging to planet than CO2 from cars: UN report: ‘Livestock are responsible for 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than cars, planes and all other forms of transport put together’
But then, these claims fell into dispute: UN admits flaw in report on meat and climate change: Admits ‘a report linking livestock to global warming exaggerated impact of eating meat on climate change’
Science not so ‘settled’: Study rebuts UN livestock emission claims – Meat Eaters Off the Hook?
The global warming activists are convinced meat eating is evil for our climate:
Animal Rights’ Peter Singer: ‘Why are they serving meat at a climate conference?’ — The best thing conference could do for climate is to remove meat from menu —and to make a big deal about it’ — ‘No one really believes Rio+20 meeting will result in a new agreement to limit ghgs…. If UN & all national delegations & activist groups at Rio+20 were to insist on eliminating meat at all buffets, private dinners, embassy receptions, luncheons & breakfast briefings, people might start to think UN takes seriously the damage that human activity is causing to the planet’

Update 2013: Review paper finds growth of atmospheric methane has significantly decreased, opposite of IPCC predictions – A new review paper from SPPI and CO2 Science finds the growth rate of atmospheric methane has significantly decreased over the past 30 years, the opposite of IPCC predictions. Separately, a new paper finds, “Warming may not release Arctic carbon – Element could stay locked in soil, 20-year study suggests.”
VEGAN SENATOR CORY BOOKER SAYS MEAT EATERS’ DAYS ARE NUMBERED
“The tragic reality is this planet simply can’t sustain billions of people consuming industrially produced animal agriculture because of environmental impact. It’s just not possible, as China, as Africa move toward consuming meat the same way America does because we just don’t have enough land.” In addition to convincing the masses to give up meat, Booker has other legislative goals that would interfere with America’s eating habits. “Legislatively, I want to continue to be a part of a movement of folk who are fighting against corporate interests that are undermining the public good and the public welfare,” he said.

‘Join the insect food revolution’ to fight ‘global warming’: ‘I eat bugs…Insects are the future of food and farming’ – Watch: Research psychologist Dr. Jenny Josephs at TEDX Talk: ‘Insects are way better for the environment than traditional livestock farming…Cows are known for creating a lot of greenhouse gas emissions and that is obviously a serious problem…Gram for gram insects are about 100 times better in terms of greenhouse gas emissions than beef’
