- Get Ready to Stink for Climate Change, Thanks to Biden’s New Washing Machine Rules that ‘require new appliances to use considerably less water’
Biden’s Energy Department “last month proposed new efficiency standards for washing machines that would require new appliances to use considerably less water, all in an effort to ‘confront the global climate crisis.’ Those mandates would force manufacturers to reduce cleaning performance to ensure their machines comply, leading industry giants such as Whirlpool said in public comments on the rule. They’ll also make the appliances more expensive and laundry day a headache—each cycle will take longer, the detergent will cost more, and in the end, the clothes will be less clean, the manufacturers say.”
The Energy Department: “Collectively these energy efficiency actions … support President Biden’s ambitious clean energy agenda to combat the climate crisis.” ... The Energy Department admitted that “maintaining acceptable cleaning performance can be more difficult as energy and water levels are reduced,” but according to the Free Beacon, “it expressed confidence that Whirlpool and other appliance manufacturers can comply with its regulations without sacrificing stain removal and other performance standards.”

- Turns Out They Are Coming for Your Gas Stoves – Energy Dept now projects ‘roughly half of all gas stoves’ in U.S. would not meet proposed ‘efficiency regulations’
Free Beacon: In an analysis published earlier this month, President Joe Biden's Energy Department acknowledged that roughly half of all gas stoves on the U.S. market today would not meet its proposed cooking appliance efficiency regulations, E&E News reported Friday. As a result, those stoves would not be eligible for purchase. Still, Energy Department spokesman Jeremy Ortiz dismissed concerns over the proposal, saying half the gas stove market "would remain if this standard is finalized as proposed." The Energy Department's admission comes roughly one month after U.S. Consumer Product Safety commissioner Richard Trumka Jr., a Biden appointee, said a gas stove ban was "on the table." "This is a hidden hazard," Trumka Jr. said of gas cooking. "Any option is on the table. Products that can't be made safe can be banned."
After Trumka's comments prompted a political firestorm, both the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the White House walked back the threat, with Biden press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre assuring Americans "the president does not support banning gas stoves." The Energy Department's new rule and subsequent analysis, however, contradict that walkback, and the home appliance industry is responding with fierce pushback.

Climate Depot's Marc Morano: "So the Biden admin sought to ban gas stoves, then denied it. Now they admit they want to ban gas stoves. I am old enough to remember when the ban on gas stoves was a conspiracy theory -- back in January 2023! It reminds me of how the government insisted COVID never came from a Chinese lab but now later admitted that it did. But don't fret; the Energy Dept spokesman insists that half of our stoves would be allowed to stay under their generous climate plan. Rejoice! A total ban to save the climate is only a 50% ban. Will Americans draw the line and say NO to being forced to cook their mandated insect rations on an electric stove or fight to saute their bugs on a gas stove?! Will we draw the line somewhere?!"
- Report: Restricting Domestic Oil & Natural Gas Production Leads to Negative Environmental Outcomes
The Institute for Energy Research has released a new report comparing the environmental quality of the major oil-producing countries...Reductions or limitations on domestic U.S. oil production must be made up for with production in the remaining oil-producing countries, which have far lower environmental standards than the U.S.
- CBS News: ‘For some electric vehicle owners, recharging now more costly than filling up’ – Prius recharge ‘now 50% more expensive than fueling it with gas’
Power rates across the region have jumped an average of 30% since last summer, while gasoline prices have receded well below their peak in June of 2022. Web engineer Matt Cain, who lives in Amherst, Massachusetts, said he ran a price comparison when his electricity bill shot up in January and found that his overall costs for utilities had climbed a whopping 50%. "We have a Prius Prime that we normally drive around town, and we drive most of it on electricity. It's now 50% more expensive than fueling it with gas," he told CBS MoneyWatch.

Canadian National Fire Database data disputes climate link to fires: ‘There has been a significant & continuing decline in the number of fires & no discernible trend in the area burned’
According to Canada’s Department of Natural Resources, fires have been occurring for thousands of years in the boreal forests of eastern Canada - not exactly unprecedented. In addition, they call fire a primary change agent that is as crucial to forest renewal as the sun and rain -perhaps not a calamity either. It appears that 2023 is on pace to be a year with unusually high numbers of fires. Yet the previous year was one of historically low numbers. The Canadian National Fire Database (2023) provides facts to dispute the idea of climate change-driven increases in fires in Canadian fires. According the CNFD, there has been a significant and continuing decline in the number of fires and no discernible trend in the area burned.
