Can the electrical grid handle the explosion of AI data centers? ‘Yes– IF we rapidly add reliable, on-demand power & reform policies that punish it. NO–if we keep shutting down reliable plants while betting on intermittent sources’ – Energy Talking Points by Alex Epstein
https://alexepstein.substack.com/p/alexai-on-blackouts-electricity-demand 1. Are blackouts in Texas and California a warning sign for the rest of the country? 2. Can our electric grid really handle the explosion of new data centers for Al? 3. Why is Alaska an excellent place for oil and natural gas production?
Green Attacks on Energy Guzzling Artificial Intelligence Ramp Up – ‘Noticed AI is incompatible with their beloved renewable transition. And they don’t like it one bit’
Green Attacks on Energy Guzzling Artificial Intelligence Ramp Up by Eric Worrall Greens have noticed AI is incompatible with their beloved renewable transition. And they don’t like it one bit. Inside Meta’s fight to change climate reality… all so it can frantically expand a risky AI program Everyone is ignoring the science on what Meta’s […]
AI’s ‘reliance on fossil fuels is almost unavoidable’: The NY Times now acknowledges that unreliable solar and wind can’t power data centers

Even the @nytimes now acknowledges that unreliable solar and wind can't power data centers—but not without pretending that solar and wind are somehow cheaper than fossil fuels. But "cheap" solar and wind is obviously meaningless when it's not reliable enough to use! pic.twitter.com/HaWlA4UOcs — Alex Epstein (@AlexEpstein) October 1, 2025
China’s Coal Sets the Stage for AI Dominance – ‘The US may not have enough reliable electricity to compete with China’
China is positioning itself to be the world leader in electricity for the rest of this century, supplementing its massive 1,500 GW of coal with dynamic development programs of nuclear, renewables and hydroelectric, including ongoing construction of the Motuo Hydropower Station of 60 GW, three times greater than their Three Gorges Dam.
Coal provided 45% of electricity in the US as of 2010. After the closure of over 300 coal plants, coal now produces only 16% and, based on the latest DOE forecast, by 2030 coal will provide only 8%. President Trump has taken steps to temporarily protect certain coal plants, but it is important to note that some of the groups filing suit to close the units are the utilities themselves, essentially guaranteeing these plants will eventually be closed.
‘Is AI Throwing Climate Change Under the Bus?’ – ‘Spoiler alert: Yes’
Is AI Throwing Climate Change Under the Bus? https://us2.campaign-archive.com/?e=0995fffbb5&u=7c733794100bcc7e083a163f0&id=74fe85119e Inside Climate News: Spoiler alert: Yes, AI is bad for the climate. AI’s computing power relies on massive data centers that use enormous amounts of electricity and water. The Trump administration wants that energy to come from burning fossil fuels, rather than renewable sources. Where does […]
Robert Bryce: ‘The Era Of Super Cheap Natural Gas Is Ending’ – ‘Soaring LNG exports & power demand for AI are driving up natural gas prices’
https://robertbryce.substack.com/p/the-era-of-super-cheap-natural-gas By Robert Bryce Excerpt: Over the past 15 years or so, thanks to the shale revolution, American consumers have saved untold billions of dollars on gasoline, diesel fuel, and natural gas. The natural gas story is particularly significant. Since 2005, domestic natural gas production has more than doubled, and the inflation-adjusted price of gas […]
US electric grids under pressure from energy-hungry data centers are changing strategy -bumping the energy- May bump ‘hungry data centers off grids during power emergencies’
https://apnews.com/article/big-tech-data-centers-electricity-energy-power-texas-pennsylvania-46b42f141d0301d4c59314cc90e3eab5 HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — With the explosive growth of Big Tech’s data centers threatening to overload U.S. electricity grids, policymakers are taking a hard look at a tough-love solution: bumping the energy-hungry data centers off grids during power emergencies. Texas moved first, as state lawmakers try to protect residents in the data-center hotspot from […]
Trump Interior Sec. Burgum: Losing AI race is more dangerous than climate change
Trump Interior Sec. Burgum: Losing AI race is more dangerous than climate change – The Interior secretary indicated that 1 degree of climate change was an acceptable consequence of ramping up fossil fuels for data centers. How AI could fuel a boom in carbon capture: Seeking to ‘balance the power requirements of technical innovation with the desires of local communities & customers for emissions stewardship’
https://www.politico.com/newsletters/power-switch/2025/09/04/how-ai-could-fuel-a-boom-in-carbon-capture-00543608 The rise of artificial intelligence could boost a long-hyped but slow-growing industry aimed at countering humanity’s warming of the Earth. Tech companies need cheap, reliable, fast power to fuel their data centers and train AI models, as Carlos Anchondo and I report today. Utilities have used that to justify extending the life of fossil fuel […]
Big Tech is overloading the grid. Nuclear, natural gas, & coal can save it
Big Tech is overloading the grid. Nuclear, natural gas, and coal can save it By James Taylor America’s electric grid is in grave danger. After decades of relatively flat national electricity demand, a surge of tech data centers, artificial intelligence, and other Big Tech electricity demand is threatening to overwhelm and crash America’s electric grid. […]
