Environmental groups sue over hidden report undermining U.S. climate rules

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) are suing the Trump administration over its secret creation of a “Climate Working Group” of climate skeptics to undermine the EPA’s landmark 2009 Endangerment Finding. The 2009 finding, based on overwhelming scientific consensus, proved climate change’s human causes and devastating effects. EDF and UCS say the group’s report, cited numerous times by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to justify overturning pollution limits, misrepresents research, hides fossil fuel ties, and violates the Federal Advisory Committee Act’s transparency rules. The lawsuit seeks to block use of the report and protect climate protections, warning that dismantling these standards will heighten physical and financial climate risks. ESG investors and companies can track such regulatory risks and their impacts on sustainability performance using ESG solutions.
