STEPHEN Hawking fears Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the Paris climate change agreement could be the “tipping point” which wipes out humanity and turns our planet into a living hell. The British professor is worried that The Donald’s rejection of this plan to combat global warming could cause irreversible changes which doom our planet to a grim fate.
1Will Donald Trump bring about the apocalypse? Professor Stephen Hawking certainly appears to think so
In recent years, Hawking has become something of a doom-monger who is determined to sketch out a variety of grim fates which await the human race. In his latest prophecy, the professor suggested our planet could be destined to become totally uninhabitable. “We are close to the tipping point where global warming becomes irreversible. Trump’s action could push the Earth over the brink, to become like Venus, with a temperature of two hundred and fifty degrees, and raining sulphuric acid,” he told the BBC. “Climate change is one of the great dangers we face, and it’s one we can prevent if we act now. “By denying the evidence for climate change, and pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, Donald Trump will cause avoidable environmental damage to our beautiful planet, endangering the natural world, for us and our children.” The famed physicist and doom monger also fears that “evolution has inbuilt greed and aggression to the human genome”, meaning that we might wipe ourselves out before Earth turns into Venus.
Climate Depot’s Marc Morano Response (remarkably Morano’s only has an undergraduate degree in political science, but his climate views are more scientifically accurate than Hawking’s views! Go figure.)
Rebuttal to Hawking:
1) ‘We are not close to a tipping point. This is quite frankly a claim beneath Hawking’s intelligence.
Climate Scientist Zeke Hausfather ridiculed Hawking’s climate claims. “A good example that even brilliant scientists sometimes say silly things when it’s outside their field of expertise (see Nobel disease),” Hausfather tweeted.
Via Daily Caller: Professor and environmental activist Bjorn Lomborg noted how the Paris agreement would only avert 0.2 degrees of projected global warming. “Stephen Hawking being silly,” Lomborg wrote. “No risk of climate runaway to Venus. US Paris cuts were just 0.2% of needed to 2°C,” Lomborg added.
Via Daily Caller: Meteorologist Dr. Ryan Maue called Hawking’s statements “bizarre.” “Stephen Hawking’s wacky and bizarre opinions on climate change (e.g. Earth becoming Venus) pollute policy debate,” Maue tweeted.
ClimatologistDr. Roy Spencer: The trouble with this statement is that no reputable climate scientist would claim such a thing. The reason is that Venus has about 220,000 times as much carbon dioxide in its atmosphere as does Earth. Meanwhile, human civilization will have trouble simply doubling (2x) our atmospheric CO2 concentration (it’s taken about 100 years to increase it by 50%, which is half way to doubling). Since we don’t know what our future energy mix will be in 50-100 years, it’s not obvious we will even reach “2XCO2”. So, how could we possibly get from 2x to 220,000x? We can’t. Impossible. Not even if we wanted to. Venus is a very different planet. Venus has 93x as much atmosphere as Earth, and it is almost 100% CO2. The CO2 concentration in our comparatively thin atmosphere is only 0.04%. I have no idea where Hawking ever got such a wild idea.
Via Daily Caller: “Venus’s atmosphere is 96.5 percent carbon dioxide, which means its climate is extremely hot compared to Earth’s climate. Earth’s atmosphere is only four-hundredths of one percent carbon dioxide. Venus’s average surface temperature is 864 degrees Fahrenheit, while Earth’s average surface temperature from 1951 and 1980 was 57.2 degrees Fahrenheit.”German newspaper claims: Earth Could Become Like Venus, 875°F
5) Trump is not endangering the world ‘for our children’. The earth has been fine with many times higher CO2 levels.
University of Pennsylvania Geologist Dr. Robert Giegengack: “CO2 is not the villain that it has been portrayed. I’m impressed by the fact that the present climate, from the perspective of a geologist, is very close to the coldest it’s ever been…the concentration CO2 in the atmosphere today is the close to the lowest it has ever been.”
6) It has been reported that many in Hawking’s audience werein tears during his climate talk. It is understandable that many may shed a tear when a great scientific mind like Hawking’s descends into utter scientific nonsense about climate change.

Full statement from Climatologist Dr. Roy Spencer on Hawking:
I can understand when pop-scientists like Bill Nye spout scientific silliness. But complete nonsense coming from Stephen Hawking? Really? In this video, Stephen Hawking claims that Trump withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Accord could lead to the Earth being pushed past a tipping point, with Venus-like 250 deg. C temperatures and sulfuric acid rain.
The trouble with this statement is that no reputable climate scientist would claim such a thing. Apparently, he had his audience in tears with his dire predictions. This is partly why the public makes fun of scientists. Sad.
