Washington Post calls out Gore for ‘patently false’ hurricane claim
Update: Gore, WaPo trying to walk back false hurricane comments --WaPo issues Correction, 3:25 p.m. Friday: According to Ezra Klein, who interviewed Al Gore, he may have inaccurately transcribed Gore’s comments pertaining to hurricane categories. Gore’s staff said the former VP did not say: “The hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now they’re adding a 6.” Rather, Gore told Klein: “The scientists are now adding category six to the hurricane… some are proposing we add category 6 to the hurricane scale that used to be 1-5.” It would seem Gore initially misspoke and corrected himself. Thus, I retract the balance of my criticism – although his characterization of the links between hurricanes and climate change could have been more precise.
Gore: The hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now they’re adding a 6. The fingerprint of man-made global warming is all over these storms and extreme weather events.
Wash. Post Rebuttal: But Gore’s statement about this new breed of hurricanes is patently false. There’s no new hurricane category in the works.
…
But with his penchant for overstatement, Gore will continue to be a divisive and less than credible voice in climate change discourse.

Warmist Scientist: Al Gore ‘got it wrong’: ‘A Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) expert says Al Gore goofed during his widely circulated Washington Post interview on global warming’ — Gore, noting stronger storms fueled by climate change, told the paper “the hurricane scale used to be 1-5 and now they’re adding a 6.” But in fact there’s no new scale, the Union of Concerned Scientists representative said on Thursday. — “There are no plans by the National Hurricane Center—the federal office responsible for categorizing storms — to create a new category,” UCS’s Gretchen Goldman wrote on the environmental group’s website.

Al Gore makes a Category 6 level blunder — ‘We are used to such feckless bloviations, such as when Gore said on national television the temperature below the Earth’s crust is millions of degrees. or when he adds reverse rotation airbrushed hurricanes to his book to make the weather look scarier.’
