Lamar Smith (R-Texas), Donald Trump (President 2017-19), Mike Pence (President 2019-21), Ken Blackwell (Head Domestic Issues (2017-21), Ben Carson (HUD), Myron Bell (EPA), Michael Flynn (was already in prison), Nikki Haley UN Ambassador), Mike Pompeo (CIA), Rick Perry (Secretary of Energy), Reince Priebus (Chief of Staff Trump admin briefly), Scott Pruitt (EPA Admin), Thomas Pyle (DOE), Jeff Sessions (Attorney General under Trump), Rex Tillerson (Secretary of State-Trump), Ryan Zinke (Sec of Interior).
You may note here that the death sentences handed down were heavily weighted towards the Trump/Pence Administration 2017-21 but there was a cogent reason for this. It was determined that after the ratification of the Paris Accords in December of 2016 that the new Trump Administration withdrew the United States from them in May of 2017. This act at this most critical juncture with little or no Carbon Budget left cemented in Abrupt Climate Change for the whole planet although the USA only represented only 25% of the emissions. This was enough to damage irretrievably the momentum coming out of the Paris Accords and to cause other countries setting on the fence to back off their efforts even if they did not publicly announce.

As noted above Donald Trump and Pence were hanged but generally heads of governments were given either 20 year sentences or life sentences depending upon the severity of their involvement in delaying climate change legislation. Surprisingly GW Bush was only given a 20 year sentence.
The real surprise was Bill Clinton and VP Al Gore were given 5 year jail times for their inaction from 1993-2000. It was thought by many Al Gore would escape any time due to his efforts to spread the word on Climate Change but a close examination of the Clinton administration showed that while they were in power they attempted little if any meaningful efforts to mitigate climate change while appearing only to do so. Pappy Bush and Ronal Reagan were of course deceased.
Some pundits were not satisfied with these historic and sweeping criminal trials and sentences. It was felt more or these criminal should have been hanged, or at least given life sentences. Most were up in years and the multitude of 20 year sentences handed down was effectively a life sentence. Many did not feel enough people were tried however there were separate trials for other classes of investment bankers, Wall Street types which are still on going.

A public appeal has been issued by an influential U.S. website asking: “At what point do we jail or execute global warming deniers.”The appeal appeared on Talking Points Memo, an often cited website that helps set the agenda for the political Left in the U.S. The anonymous posting, dated June 2, 2009, referred to dissenters of man-made global warming fears as “greedy bastards” who use “bogus science or the lowest scientists in the gene pool” to “distort data.”
The Talking Points Memo article continues: “So when the right wing fucktards have caused it to be too late to fix the problem, and we start seeing the devastating consequences and we start seeing end of the World type events – how will we punish those responsible. It will be too late. So shouldn’t we start punishing them now?”
The article also claims the “vast majority” of scientists agree that man-made warming “can do an untold amount of damage to life on Earth.”

What is so frustrating about these fools is that they are the politicians and greedy bastards who don’t want a cut in their profits who use bogus science or the lowest scientists in the gene pool who will distort data for a few bucks. The vast majority of the scientific minds in the World agree and understand it’s a very serious problem that can do an untold amount of damage to life on Earth.
So when the right wing fucktards have caused it to be too late to fix the problem, and we start seeing the devastating consequences and we start seeing end of the World type events – how will we punish those responsible. It will be too late. So shouldn’t we start punishing them now?

In June 2009, former Clinton Administration official Joe Romm defended a comment on his Climate Progress website warning skeptics would be strangled in their beds. “An entire generation will soon be ready to strangle you and your kind while you sleep in your beds,” stated the remarks, which Romm defended by calling them “not a threat, but a prediction.”
In 2006, the eco-magazine Grist called for Nuremberg-Style trials for skeptics. In 2008, Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki called for government leaders skeptical of global warming to be thrown “into jail.” In 2007, The Weather Channel’s climate expert called for withholding certification of skeptical meteorologists.
A 2008 report found that ‘climate blasphemy’ is replacing traditional religious blasphemy. In addition, a July 2007 Senate reportdetailed how skeptical scientists have faced threats and intimidation.
In 2007, then EPA Chief Vowed to Probe E-mail Threatening to ‘Destroy’ Career of Climate Skeptic and dissenters of warming fears have been called ‘Climate Criminals’ who are committing ‘Terracide’ (killing of Planet Earth) (July 25, 2007) In addition, in May 2009, Climate Depot Was Banned in Louisiana! September 29. 2007: VA State Climatologist skeptical of global warming loses job after clash with Governor: ‘I was told that I could not speak in public’ Excerpt: Michaels has argued that the climate is becoming warmer but that the consequences will not be as dire as others have predicted. Gov. Kaine had warned. In an exclusive interview with KGW-TV, Governor Ted Kulongoski confirmed he wants to take that title from Taylor.
Skeptical State Climatologist in Delaware silenced by Governor (May 2, 2007) Excerpt: Legates is a state climatologist in Delaware, and he teaches at the university. He`s not part of the mythical climate consensus. In fact, Legates believes that we oversimplify climate by just blaming greenhouse gases. One day he received a letter from the governor, saying his views do not concur with those of the administration, so if he wants to speak out, it must be as an individual, not as a state climatologist. So essentially, you can have the title of state climatologist unless he`s talking about his views on climate?

Crimes against Humanity (The trials 2029)

Hypothetical Climate Crimes trials projected to held in the year 2029 as a stark warning to humanity we do not want to let things go until we reach such an impasse. This story is meant to be a cautionary tale.
(Authors note the year 2029 was chosen here primarily to make this future trial coincide with the life times of the participants in these crimes. A later date like 2049 would find most of these criminals deceased from old age.)
Crimes against humanity are already covered by the London Accords ratified in August of 1945. Ironically only the bombing of Nagasaki falls under the London Accords, and war crimes preceding this date can be argued to have been adjudicated under ex post facto law.
The London Accords can be interrupted to apply to crimes against humanity that do not necessarily result from war crimes generally, but are being applied here to crimes that result from decisions made by corporate managers and heads of state (covering for corporate managers) to protect their profits, but resulted in this case in environmental degradation that destroyed the life supporting capacity of the planet and shortened or terminated the lives of millions or even billions of people.

The Background, starting in 2017 Abrupt Climate Change begins exponential ramp up with amplifying feedback loops kicking in with a vengeance. By 2024 up to 5 C warming was being seen on the land in the interior areas of most continents.
Arctic Sea Ice having been lost in the summer by 2018 a rapid warming of the Arctic Ocean ensued causing the release of massive amounts of what had been sequestered frozen methane from both the shallow continental shelves there and in the land based permafrost. Sea levels were rising in some areas of the globe by the feet rather than in inches (sub two meters rather centimeters).
Major Crop failures were being experienced around the globe in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Billions of people begin to perish as a result of malnutrition and disease which preys on malnourished people by 2024.
By 2027 some three billion people had perished with no end in sight and the first world countries (Europe, Japan, North America, and parts of South America) on the planet were experiencing major food shortages. Higher prices at first only kept the poor from buying food. Then even the rich even begin to have problems, after all if there is no Corn, Wheat, or Rice to be found in the stores even the rich cannot buy it.
This is when the clamor began for scapegoating someone, anyone, the public wanted to put some people on trial and “LOCK THEM UP”. Who in power knew about just how serious Global Warming was and when did they know it? The paper trail led back to the 1960’s and 1970’s and there was a lot of evidence that many of the major players in the world’s energy and transportation sectors not only knew about how serious global warming was going to be, but decided to collude in covering up the need for a major shift to renewable energy sources for as long as they could, to protect profits.

The list of Life Sentences and 20 year sentences (often the same thing) handed down is too long to innumerate here. Of note here Bob Lutz was deceased at the time of trial but Rick Wagoner was tried and sentence to 20 years. Other execs and officers responsible for crushing the EV-1 received 20 year sentences as did a couple members of the CARB Board in California who were found to have taken bribes. The Koch brothers were executed.
When it was all done 32 oil company executives received a total of 640 years, three of them were hanged. Some 36 electric utility company executives received a total of 720 years of sentences, and four of them we hanged. Pretty much half of all the Republican congressmen serving from 1980 to 2020 was sentenced to either 20 year sentences or in the case of the ring leaders like Inhofe or Tom Delay received life sentences. It was felt that it would cast too much of a pall over future legislative efforts to pass death sentences on them but the court wanted to send a message. In total over 6,000 years of jail time was awarded to over 230 individuals in both the House and Senate serving from 1980 to 2020. Likewise in Europe and Japan another 2,500 years of sentencing was passed down on legislators in this part of the world for officers serving for the same time frames.

As a citizen (USA) born in 1950 I have lived for the majority of the time in question 1980-2020 and I was very gratified to see these trials and sentences including the death sentences in many instances.
However the Climate Crimes trials of 2029 as palliative as they feel to many do not change the material facts that we are locked in Abrupt Climate Change and the prospects for humanity are not good. The potential exist for human extinction in the next twenty years so in a sense we all have been handed down a death sentence. Where were the radical efforts to mitigate climate change in 1990 and beyond?
The truth of the matter is not nearly enough of us in the developed world from 1990 on embraced energy efficiency, renewable energy, and a life style that reduced our footprint on the planet. More people than not said they believed climate change was real and somebody ought to do something about it, but they were unwilling when it came down to it forego that European (or USA) vacation jetting across the Atlantic or Pacific, and or that Cruise Ship the size of a small city.
Way too many of us dissembled, and were willing to believe things were not that bad while the evidence we were in serious trouble accumulated around the globe. We just had to have that Chevy Suburban, that extra sized house with two air conditioners, the jet boat for skiing on the lake or any other of the numerous toys our techno civilization has to offer. Many still do but the truth be told such people are probably the most vociferous for blood among us.
It became a cliché, drive that Suburban to the Sierra Club meeting and send off that membership money so someone else would do something to address the problem. How many of us stopped to think if you were against that latest project to drill for oil in the Arctic, or off shore it might even be a better idea to stop using so much of the product yourself. A fuel efficient car when available and an electric car as soon as the technology and the budget permitted should have been in order.
Instead like Captain Ahab in the book “Moby Dick” we lived on with only half a lung, half a liver, and half a heart, while pursuing the good life with a megalomania that would have made even Ahab proud. Now the deed is done, the truth is out, who is to say when we all stand before the bar? How life turns us like yonder windlass lo.
