Filipino negotiator says his monthly ritual of fasting is helping him to secure a strong UN treaty on climate change - 'Fasting allows you to understand where others come from and lead you to solutions that would go beyond the confines of what is written, what is conventional'
'The State Department today released its Climate Action Report, which reconfirms the administration’s commitment to issue new regulations of existing power plants, and further argues that such a plan could bring the U.S. into compliance with its international greenhouse gas reductions. Kerry has already negotiated an agreement with China to phase out hydrofluorocarbons. After the EPA’s regulations come out, the next step is for Kerry to negotiate the next international climate accord in 2015. As Brad Plumer correctly notes, with characteristic pessimism, a climate treaty is merely a necessary but insufficient step toward averting catastrophic climate change, with more reductions necessary. But that necessary first step is exactly what Obama is doing everything in his power to take with his remaining time.'
In a sometimes contentious interview, Morano charged the UN IPCC reports are political, not scientific, arguing the most recent report, issued in September 2013, “was essentially written by a handful of UN scientists that they are fulfilling a narrative on man-made global warming.” Morano cited various scientific studies that he asserts undermine the UN IPCC’s allegation that a scientific consensus has “settled the global warming thesis.” “The settled science which the UN IPCC claims, seems to be changing by the week,” Morano countered. “We had two contrary studies in one week.”
Morano in UN TV debate: 'The idea that somehow we can do an [climate] insurance policy with anything the United Nations is currently proposing is pure madness.'
'The whole agenda here is politics. You have Michael Oppenheimer, a UN IPCC scientist, on the payroll of Barbara Streisand of Hollywood. Big Hollywood is funding one of your top UN scientists, but I don't hear you worrying about his credibility there' --
'You get into the immorality of telling Africans and 1.6 billion people of color in the developing world – Asia, Africa, South America -- that they can't develop with coal, natural gas and carbon based energy like we have. You get into basically a racial component where the white wealthy western world is telling the developing world they can’t have the same standard of living.'
Morano on Sun News TV - 'The Source w/ Ezra Levant': 'This is what the Obama admin is all about. except they don't announce it. They don't call it that. But when you try to restrict energy access and manage and plan an energy economy on every aspect, you suddenly have the power to have planned recessions. That is why they have UN treaties that are part of what they call 'global governance'. Anderson's plan is that the wealthy nations will get together and start planning recession to lower our emissions.'
