Note: Dr. Richard Tol is featured in the upcoming film 'Climate Hustle'
Question: 'Are you concerned that the future of your children is at risk due to climate change?'
Tol: “Not for a moment. It disturbs me hearing people like Al Gore say that he is worried about the future of his grandchildren. Complete madness. The best estimate is that sea level will rise half a meter this century. That is from the ground to our knees.'
'Unless you raise funds for Greenpeace or are a politician who presents themself as the savior of mankind: then you gain by exaggerating things.'
Dr. Richard Tol used to be a member of Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.
His early research was on the statistical link between greenhouse gases and climate change.
He set out to prove Nordhaus’s low carbon price argument wrong – but ended up proving Nordhaus right.
Germany’s print high-profile national daily the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) which features climate economist Richard Tol titled: 'The apocalypse won’t take place' - 'Tol is one of the most productive and most respected researchers in his field. He is (co)author of more than 250 papers in renowned journals and according to the Ideas-Repec databank, among the top 100 scientists worldwide.'
Tol on 97% claims: 'Such a consensus does not exist, he explains. ‘Climate science is very bitter and politicized.’ He sees the unpleasant tendency of scientists getting more attention by issuing ever more drastic warnings.'
Tol believes 'the European Union is on the wrong path' with its climate policy of costly subsidies for the feed-in of green energies, which has scarcely has an impact on climate. "It should all be discarded and the ten thousand climate bureaucrats should look for new jobs. We need a policy change.'
Tol: 'When preparations started on AR5, the world hadn’t warmed for 13 years. That is a bit odd, if you believe the models, but not odd enough to merit a lot of attention. By the time the report was finished, however, it hadn’t warmed for 17 years. That is decidedly odd, but hard to accommodate in a near-final draft that has been through three rounds of review.' - 'The report was greeted by the four horsemen of the apocalypse: famine, pestilence, war, death all made headlines.'
'Here are some suggestions: Away with the infrequent, massive set pieces. Away with alarmism – that has been tried for 25 years, with no discernible impact on emissions. Away with activists posing as scientists. Away with the freshman mistakes.'
Climate TRACE utilizes satellite data, machine learning and artificial intelligence to determine greenhouse gas emissions globally. It aims usher in an era of "radical transparency" and a more enforceable climate agreement by giving nonprofits, governments and the UN actionable intelligence to track and crack down on polluters.
East Antarctica, which covers two thirds of the South Pole, has cooled a whopping 2.8°C over the past 4 decades; West Antarctica approximately 1.6″C. ..only tiny Antarctic Peninsula saw statistically insignificant warming.
Last week, media outlets across the globe claimed that there has been rain for the first time at the Greenland summit. “Rain fell at the normally snowy summit of Greenland for the first time on record,” read CNN’s headlines. Others went a step further and declared it a sign of climate doomsday. “Rain On Greenland Ice Sheet, Possibly A First, Signals Climate Change Risk,” read another headline. Unfortunately, for the mainstream media, climate history nearly always comes back to haunt their claims of unprecedented events. Records reveal that this is not the first rainfall in Greenland, and certainly not the first on the Greenland summit peak, which stands at around 10,000 feet.
