Left Behind in a Volcanic Eruption

To see a glimpse of our possible social-credit–determined future, look no further than the April 2021 volcanic eruption on Saint Vincent in the Caribbean. The volcano La Soufrière erupted and spewed plumes of hot ash into the air, and hot lava flowed, forcing residents to flee their homes and evacuate the island.

“‘It’s destroying everything in its path,’ Erouscilla Joseph, director of the University of the West Indies’ Seismic Research Center told the Associated Press. ‘Anybody who would have not heeded the evacuation, they need to get out immediately.’”86

But only those residents who had already received the COVID-19 vaccine were allowed to exit via the cruise ships standing by to evac- uate. CBS Evening News with Norah O’Donnell reported it this way: “Nearly twenty thousand people are out of their homes on the Caribbean island of St. Vincent, after the first volcanic eruption there in more than forty years. The volcano sent a thick cloud of smoke twenty thousand feet into the sky, spewing ash for miles. Cruise ships are evacuating people from the island, but only those vaccinated against COVID.”

“The Chief Medical Officer will be identifying the persons who are already vaccinated so we can get them on the ship,” Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves explained.

Pennsylvania state representative Andrew Lewis was horrified. “This preferential treatment of populations facing imminent harm and even death—it is absolutely insane. We need to stop this in its tracks and treat all people equally while PROTECTING their medical pri- vacy,” Lewis wrote.89

But many seemed to be happy with discrimination on the basis of vaccine status. CNN anchor Don Lemon said, “You’ve got to start telling people, ‘If you don’t get vaccinated, you can’t come into this office or this place of business. If you don’t get vaccinated, you can’t come to work. If you don’t get vaccinated, you can’t come into this gym. If you don’t get vaccinated, you can’t…get onto this airplane.’ It, this has nothing to do with freedom. It has nothing to do with liberty. You don’t have the freedom and the liberty to put other people in jeopardy,” Lemon said.90

Democrat New York State assemblyman Patrick Burke proposed a “bill that would allow health insurance companies to deny coverage to those who refuse to get vaccinated against Covid-19.” Burke explained, “I’m introducing a bill that allows insurance providers to deny coverage for Covid related treatment to those who refuse to be vaccinated.”91

Staff writer David Frum of The Atlantic suggested hospitals and doctors treat unvaccinated patients last. “Let hospitals quietly triage emergency care to serve the unvaccinated last,” Frum tweeted.92

Governments around the world seemed eager to punish those who fail to obey their rules. “Pakistan’s most populous province, Punjab, has decided to combat residents’ COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy by threatening to block cell phone service to anyone who refuses inoculation,” CBS News reported in an article titled, “Millions of Pakistanis Threatened with Cell Phone Cut-Off If They Don’t Get a COVID Vaccine.”

In Nigeria, your ability to enter a bank and conduct financial transactions is at risk. “Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki gave residents until mid-September to get vaccinated or risk being barred from certain places, including banks, private functions, churches and mosques,” according to AfricaNews.com. “We have made adequate arrangements with the security agencies to prevent anyone without a vaccination card from entering these places,” Obaseki stated.

In the United States, conservative commentator Candace Owens revealed that a COVID-19 testing lab had denied her service due to opposition to COVID-19 mandates. Aspen Laboratories cofounder Suzanna Lee wrote to Owens that the testing facility “cannot support anyone who has pro-actively worked to make this pandemic worse by spreading misinformation, politicizing and DISCOURAGING the wearing of masks and actively dissuading people from receiving life-saving vaccinations.” Lee’s email added, “It would be unfair to them and to the sacrifices we have all made this year to serve you.”

“Owens responded that she believes in the ‘freedom to choose,’ but when health professionals ‘begin choosing who is allowed to determine if they have covid—we are no longer in a public health crisis.’”

Entertainer Pat Condell, a self-described “free speech fundamentalist” discussed the new normal of COVID-19 mandates:

Vaccine passports were the plan from the start. The first step towards a Chinese-style social credit system and digital surveillance of the entire population.

They will keep adding aspects of your life to the app until it knows everything about you, and you can’t do anything without its permission.

When they get rid of cash and make all financial transactions electronic, the government will decide how and where you can spend your money.

If you drink too much, you’re not allowed to buy alcohol today for your own good. If you’re too fat, you can’t have that cake. Have an apple instead, for your own good.

If you express opinions that offend the wrong people, you can be prevented from traveling or using the internet, or even buying food until you change your thinking.

That’s how things work in China right now. And it’s what they intend to implement here. Vaccine passports are the first step towards total surveillance and control. If we’re foolish enough to co-operate, we are signing our culture’s death warrant.97

Real life validated Condell’s warning. The Bank of England urged parliament to weigh in on whether digital currency “should be ‘program- mable,’ ultimately giving the issuer control over how it is spent by the recipient,” according to The Telegraph.

Tom Mutton, a director at the Bank of England, explained, “There could be some socially beneficial outcomes from that, preventing activity which is seen to be socially harmful in some way. But at the same time it could be a restriction on people’s freedoms.”

Sir Jon Cunliffe, a deputy governor at the Bank of England, noted, “You could think of giving your children pocket money, but programming the money so that it couldn’t be used for sweets. There is a whole range of things that money could do, programmable money, which we cannot do with the current technology.”98

Meanwhile, Chase Bank canceled the credit cards of former Trump administration national security advisor Lieutenant General Michael Flynn in 2021, citing his “possible reputational risk to our company.” As Chase explained to Flynn, “After careful consideration, we decided to close your credit cards on September 18, 2021, because continuing the relationship creates possible reputational risk to our company.” Flynn cards were canceled not for COVID-19 related issues, but because he had worked with former president Donald Trump. After an uproar, Chase reversed itself and said it had been a “mistake” to cancel the credit cards.

In 2022, the Biden administration announced support for a U.S. Central Bank Digital Currency.

And Neil Parmenter, the president and CEO of the Canadian Bankers Association, has said “Canada’s banks are perfectly situated to help lead the creation of a federated digital ID system between government and the private sector. The World Economic Forum agrees.”

The forces pushing the Great Reset see decentralized digital crypto-currencies like Bitcoin as a threat to the global central banks and their agendas. For the same reasons that corporations and retail chains are much easier to control with woke ideology than small independent businesses, centralized, government-run digital currency is the goal, instead of decentralized cryptocurrencies.

The Canadian truckers’ “Freedom Convoy” protest against vaccine mandates and other COVID-19 restrictions provided a preview of the banking aspects of the Great Reset, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration punished the truckers by freezing their bank accounts and ability to fundraise. “The Canadian government, especially by invoking the Emergencies Act, has ushered in a coming totalitarianism,” wrote Annelise Butler of the Center for Technology Policy at The Heritage Foundation. “The act…put into effect to crush the convoy, empowered the Canadian government, according to Business Insider, to ‘temporarily override civil rights, restrict travel, forbid public assembly, and force businesses to act without compensation.’”102

Donations of $10 million for the trucker’s protest to the crowd-funding site GoFundMe were withheld by GoFundMe, acting at the behest of Trudeau’s government. An alternative fundraising company, GiveSendGo tried to fill the void and raised millions, but Canadian officials then began to freeze the accounts of anyone who was involved in or donated to the trucker convey. GiveSendGo was forced to refund the donations it received.103

For his part, Trudeau revealed he had no self-awareness about the two years of brutal lockdowns he imposed on Canadians. “Individuals are trying to blockade our economy, our democracy, and our fellow citizens’ daily lives. It has to stop,” Trudeau said of the trucker protest, without a hint of irony.104

“Financial deplatforming, or banking censorship, will be a common lever for governments and companies when they decide to silence political opinions,” as Butler noted.105

Samantha Hoffman, of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, explained the real motives behind these schemes. “China’s social credit system is a state-driven program designed to do one thing, to uphold and expand the Chinese Communist Party’s power,” Hoffman said.

“In Mao’s China, the Mass Line relied on ideological mass mobilization, using Mao Zedong’s personal charisma, to force participation,” according to Hoffman. “The CCP could no longer, after the Mao era, rely on ideological mobilization as the primary tool for operationalizing social management.”

“The West should not copy any aspect of social credit,” Hoffman urged. “Often, comparisons are drawn between private applications like Uber and its rating system for customers and drivers. While these private company systems are extremely problematic in my view, they are fundamentally different. The People’s Republic of China is an authoritarian country, the Chinese Communist Party is responsible for gross human rights violations for decades—just look at the example of Xinjiang now. There is nothing any liberal democratic society should even think about copying in the social credit system.”106

Naomi Wolf laid out a chilling vision of how close America is to digital tyranny. “It takes half an hour to tweak the back end of a yes-or-no, have-you-been-vaccinated digital product and add Apple Pay or Google Wallet, which is what Microsoft with Oracle and Salesforce have already created. They want to embed—they have embedded the vaccine-status verification digital into Apple Pay and Google Wallet, which means that your income can be switched on or off. Your business can be suspended if you don’t comply with whatever the people in power decide.”

Wolf presented the reality of the current state of digital surveillance to the legislature: “It takes a half an hour to add AI [artificial intelligence] that reads your social media commentary into this app, so that if you

might have said something on social media supportive of conservatives or supportive of liberals, that can dial down or dial up your score on this app in real time. And not only that, within a heartbeat, you can add your credit history, so that your ability to get credit can be suspended or made easier or more difficult digitally so easily, depending on if you’ve complied with getting vaccinated or not getting vaccinated.”

“With a vaccine passport in use—as in my state of New York, as they’re rolling out in Southern California, as they’re already rolling out in Canada, as the people in Israel are sending us messages saying, save us! Tell the world what’s happening to us. We’re a two-tier society already—your app can geolocate you,” Wolf testified.

Wolf explained that these apps can already track any of their users. “If you gather after this hearing, with your friends in a bar to discuss opposition to the vaccine passport, your app will know who you’re meeting with because you’ll have to swipe that QR code, which reads who you are, who your friends are.”

“I’ve seen this software. It exists already—maps of your social networks—so that the app will know who you’re hanging out with,” she added.

“This is not a Chinese Communist–style social-credit system in the future. It’s a Chinese Communist–style social-credit system now.”

By 2022, even the mainstream media could not miss the strangling of freedom by the COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine mandates. In a moment of clarity, Agence France-Presse (AFP) pointed out, “From a litany of lockdowns to mandatory mask-wearing and Covid passes to access entertainment and sporting venues, the pandemic has led to sweeping restrictions on civil liberties in some of the world’s oldest democracies.”

As AFP reported, “And from the Netherlands to Austria, Germany, Belgium, and France, thousands of people have taken to the streets—sometimes clashing with police—to protest Covid rules and health passes.”
