Ad highlights alarmism, rising costs, and massive government intervention

The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) today launched a new advertising campaign asking the American people if they can afford the so-called Green New Deal.

The campaign begins tonight with a 30 second television ad, pointing out implementation of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Ed Markey’s Green New Deal proposal would stick consumers with skyrocketing gas prices and electric bills and impose significant hurdles to the American economy. That ad will air on CNN before, during, and after tonight’s Democratic debate in the DC market.

The campaign will escalate over the next 30 days and will spend more than a quarter million dollars.

“At a time when technology and innovation have led the United States to become the world’s largest producer of oil and gas and lowered energy prices, alarmist politicians and activists are using doomsday predictions to advance harmful energy-rationing policies that will cost Americans tens of thousands of dollars,” said CEI President Kent Lassman. “With Democrats and environmental extremists demanding policies that will take thousands of more dollars out of their paychecks, you should ask yourself: Can I afford the Green New Deal?”
