Petteri Taalas, the secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), told the Talouselämä magazine in Finland that he disagrees with doomsday climate extremists who call for radical action to prevent a purported apocalypse.“Now we should stay calm and ponder what is really the solution to this problem,” Taalas said. “It is not going to be the end of the world. The world is just becoming more challenging. In parts of the globe, living conditions are becoming worse, but people have survived in harsh conditions.”
The remarks came as a “total surprise,” especially coming from Talaas, who has himself made alarmist statements about the climate, according to Benny Peiser, the director of the Global Warming Policy Foundation in London.“I think they’re beginning to realize that the whole agenda has been hijacked by extremists and undermining the economy and the social stability of European countries,” Peiser told The Epoch Times.
Greenpeace co-founder Dr. Patrick Moore: "The World Meteorological Organization is the science behind the IPCC. The other partner, the U.N. Environment Program, is the politics. The head of the WMO has categorically rejected the alarmist narrative. We must hope he is listened to and not silenced."
Steyn: Michael Mann filed a frivolous suit he had no intention of bringing to trial, but he succeeded in hounding Tim Ball into the grave. ... Ball had all the qualities of a true warrior: courage, integrity, indomitable resilience, and, in his quiet dignified bearing, a rueful acceptance of the costs they impose. The ugly husk of a human being that is Michael Mann could destroy Tim's savings and his health, but he could not destroy Tim's spirit.
Shellenberger: Conspiracy theories aside, the influence of the WEF is quite real, and one of the central demands of the Great Reset was, upon its launch, the phase-out of fuel subsidies in poor nations. ... WEF & The Great Reset are explicitly inspired by the anti-human, pro-scarcity ideology of Malthus. Here’s the smoking gun. Their goal is de-industrialization through renewables & organics. It’s driving inflation, causing riots, and undermining governments.
It’s an irrational, apocalyptic religion that emerges from nihilism, the view that life has no purpose, and that we should dismantle civilization. Point any of this out and they say, “Oh gosh no — we’re just trying to help people by reducing pollution!” But they’re obviously not trying to reduce pollution because, by shutting down natural gas and nuclear plants, they are making pollution worse. And they aren’t interested in reducing fertilizer pollution through technology, only through reducing farming, livestock, & food. The flip side of nihilism is narcissism. They compensate for the anxiety that stems from their view of life as meaningless by constantly demanding attention. They insist the world will end unless everyone does what they say, namely by becoming poorer. The good news is that a growing number of the people who provide us with the food & energy we need to survive are finally standing up for civilization. Farmers are protesting. Energy consumers are rioting. And energy providers are push back against the Woke nihilists.
