“We see real challenges in getting to the goals that have been set in the original Virginia Clean Economy Act, and my opponent wants to accelerate them and destabilize our entire energy grid,” Youngkin said of the law passed last year by the Democratic-controlled Legislature and signed by Gov. Ralph Northam (D).
“We’ve seen what happens in California when, in fact, you don’t have a reliable energy grid,” he continued. “So if you like what you just heard from my opponent, get ready for blackouts and brownouts and an unreliable energy grid.”
Politico: The more confrontational elements of the climate left are in public freakout mode. The youth-oriented Sunrise Movement, which gave Biden’s initial climate plan an F-minus grade during the Democratic primary but praised his initial infrastructure plan for its climate ambition, protested his negotiations with Capito and other Republicans outside the White House last week. Sunrise executive director Varshini Prakash warned on Tuesday that “anything less than a robust jobs and climate package is a death sentence for our generation.”
AOC: “We’ve heard a lot of, frankly fantastical, stories about what we would do if we actually commit to saving our planet. “We have heard that it is a socialist conspiracy takeover to bring down climate emissions below the IPCC report of 1.5 Degrees Celsius. “We have heard that it will cause electricity bills to skyrocket and prompt families to pay hundreds of dollars a month in their normal electricity bills But, that doesn’t actually compare – while we see these statistics and studies by Republican and conservative and pro-lobbyist think tanks develop these theoretical ideas about what nightmares could potentially await us if we actually stewarded our future. They fail to acknowledge what is happening right now.”
Steve Milloy: Today’s elevation is not all that different from the low points of 1956 and 1965 (about 1,090 feet, shown in first graph), especially when you consider the increases in water use and human management of reservoir levels over time. No doubt that drought is affecting Lake Mead. But Western drought is natural (the region is a desert, after all), and Lake Mead was comparably low more than 100 ppm CO2 ago.
Bill Gates, Sir Richard Branson, Hollywood actors, venture capitalists — they’re all pushing lab-grown meat as the solution to world hunger and environmental sustainability, but scientists last week told a panel of experts they have serious concerns about the product’s safety.
