‘Is CBS really this stupid???’ Features failed doomsday preacher Paul Ehrlich making more dire predictions

Is this archive footage from the 70s or is Ehrlich still around? Is CBS really this stupid???

Here’s a straight news story unironically promoting the predictions of a man best known for being spectacularly wrong about the exact same predictions 50 years ago.
Paul Ehrlich 1968: “The battle to feed all of humanity is over.”
In the April 1970 issue of The Progressive, Paul Ehrlich projected a 1999 “United States of North America” population of 22.6 million.

Ehrlich, April 22, 1970 Earth Day speech:

“In ten years all important animal life in the sea will be extinct. Large areas of coastline will have to be evacuated because of the stench of dead fish.”

Paul Ehrlich 1971: “even money that England will not exist in the year 2000.”

Here’s a really creepy one.

“The mother of the year should be a sterilized woman with two adopted children.”

Ehrlich 1975 “One of the main purported benefits of nuclear power, the availability of cheap and abundant energy, is in fact a cost…Giving society cheap, abundant energy at this point would be the moral equivalent of giving an idiot child a machine gun.”

Paul and Anne Ehrlich 1974: “Before 1985 mankind will enter a genuine age of scarcity in which many things besides energy will be in short supply. Starvation among people will be accompanied by starvation of industries for the materials they require.”
