You were warned! Climate Lockdowns looming – Wash Post: Biden set to issue ‘climate emergency’ declaration – ‘Unchains the president’ from Congress

President Biden is considering declaring a national climate emergency as soon as this week as he seeks to salvage his environmental agenda in the wake of stalled talks on Capitol Hill, according to three people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private deliberations.
Citing the impasse, Merkley added: “This also unchains the president from waiting for Congress to act.”
Some climate activists have urged the White House in recent months to deploy an emergency declaration to maximum effect, arguing that it would allow the president to halt crude oil exports, limit oil and gas drilling in federal waters, and direct agencies including the Federal Emergency Management Agency to boost renewable-energy sources.

Community leaders urged Gov. Ron Desantis Monday to declare a state of climate emergency immediately in Florida citing a recent report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that mentioned Florida is under significant threat.

The call to action, launched during what Chispa Florida is calling Latino Conservation week, included State Rep. Anna Eskamani (D) and Florida Conservation Voters, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Jobs with Justice, La Mesa Boricua de Florida, Hope Community Center, Farmworker Association of Florida and Mi Familia Vota to raise awareness about climate change as a “threat to the long-term safety and well-being of Florida’s people, economy, and environment.”

Rep. Eskamani, along with other Senators and Representatives, recognizing that climate change “affects us all, especially people living in Florida,” wrote a letter asking DeSantis to declare a state of climate emergency due to the connection between greenhouse gas emissions produced by humans and the global rise in temperature and fossil fuels.

During a press conference outside City Hall in downtown Orlando, the group warned that human-caused increases in global temperatures must end as soon as possible to avoid a “widespread and potentially irreversible impact.”

The representative said that declaring a climate emergency would also require Florida’s government to “establish a task force of scientists, environmental justice experts and local community leaders to inform his decision making on climate. We want to identify and measure Florida’s greenhouse gasses including the source, industry and county it originates from. Then we want to propose greenhouse gas reduction strategies, including a pathway for Florida to be carbon neutral and 100% renewable energy based by 2040,” she stated amongst other measures.
