GEORGETOWN COLLEGE REPUBLICANS TO HOST CLIMATE SCHOLARS IN REBUTTAL TO 2020 CANDIDATES Conservative students hope to provide alternative perspective

WASHINGTON, DC –– 9/13/2019 –– The Georgetown University College Republicans (GUCR) will host five climate scientists and policy experts at an event at 7:00pm on September 19th, in response to a Climate Forum event featuring twelve of the current presidential candidates at the university on September 19th and 20th. The candidates’ event is hosted by the Georgetown Institute of Politics & Public Service, MSNBC, New York Magazine, and Our Daily Planet, and features several big-name candidates like Senator Bernie Sanders and Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

GUCR’s event, titled “Climate Forum: A Rebuttal,” will feature five climate experts: Marc Morano of ClimateDepot.com, Dr. Caleb Rossiter and Dr. Patrick Michaels of the CO2 Coalition, Paul Driessen of the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), and Kenny Stein of the Institute for Energy Research. Each speaker will address a different topic related to climate policy or climate science, from fossil fuels to the interaction of science and policy in government.

“Our goal is to provide an alternative perspective in response to the echo chamber presented by the candidates coming to our school,” said Rowan Saydlowski, the Vice President of GUCR. “GUCR does not necessarily endorse every view of every speaker we bring; however, we see our role at the university as providing a platform for right-wing perspectives where there otherwise may not be a space for them.”

GUCR, along with representatives from the CO2 Coalition, the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, the Institute for Energy Research, and Turning Point USA, will also be tabling on campus throughout the day on September 19th and 20th in the area of campus known as Red Square. The organizations hope to distribute literature to students and provide an alternative perspective amidst the primarily left-wing speeches by the presidential candidates.
