Army could phase out fossil fuels to attract ecofriendly recruits, senior general says

By Paul Homewood

Sometimes I think I have been transported to a parallel universe. Now I know I have!

The Army could phase out petrol and diesel vehicles in a bid to attract ecofriendly recruits, the Chief of the General Staff has said.

Gen Sir Mark Carleton-Smith said today’s military equipment would probably be the last to be “dependent on fossil fuel engines”, and that a move toward clean energy would be beneficial logistically and put the military “on the right side of the environmental argument”.

Speaking at a defence and security event in London, he said: “The Army is leading defence on sustainable energy solutions, both at home and when deployed overseas. We may be at the inflection point of how we power our next generation of vehicles. Our current equipment programme is possibly the last to be dependent on fossil fuel.”

If this idiot really believes that, he should be sacked overnight.

The army’s job is to protect the nation, not fight climate change.

Perhaps Sir Mark Idiot-Pratt might like to explain how it could do that in the next desert war, where I strongly suspect the enemy won’t have conveniently left behind thousands of EV charging points.

Or what the RAF will do when their aircraft are parked on the runways, waiting to recharge when the wind decides to blow, whilst the Russkis are queuing up overhead to bomb them.

I’m not sure what concerns me most. That the Chief of Staff wants to cripple the armed forces in some spurious attempt to be “on the right side of the environmental argument”. Or whether it is to “attract eco-friendly recruits”.

Unfortunately this appears to be yet another case where somebody, who is evidently sensible, feels he has to toe the establishment line if he wants to stay in his job.

But that will be of little consolation to the soldiers, whether eco-friendly or not, who will die as a result of his misguided policies.
