In a recent interview with Salon, television personality and mechanical engineer Bill Nye admitted that despite decades of work, his climate change activism has failed.
Nye cited his attempts to bring awareness to climate change, starting in 1993 with the children’s book he wrote, and then continuing in the 90s with his children’s TV show, “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”
Now, Nye has turned to speaking to adults about climate change. But he lamented that even this has not made an impact.

“And the United States has now got the head of the EPA who wants to close the EPA, I mean, this is completely ineffective, I’m a failure,” Nye said.
The head of the Environmental Protection Agency is currently Scott Pruitt, who does not deny the globe is warming but thinks that “measuring with precision human activity on the climate is something very challenging to do and there’s tremendous disagreement about the degree of impact,” according to CNBC.
In a March interview on “Squwak Box,” Pruitt explained that “I would not agree that (human activity is) a primary contributor to the global warming that we see.”
Nye believes that the problem is not lack of scientific data or certainty, but instead the fossil fuel industry.“
The problem has been the fossil fuel industry, so well-funded,” Nye told Salon.
Yet others have indicated the problemwith Nye’s activism may be his reputation for getting essential climate facts wrong.
The Daily Wire pointed out in February that Nye has made crucial errors in explaining hurricanes, tornadoes and other examples of “severe weather” to the general public.
Jason Samenow, who writes for The Washington Post and has a masters degree in atmospheric science, has criticized Nye’s attempt at an explanation of hurricanes, calling it “one of the most flawed discussions of meteorology I’ve ever seen on a national network.”

Moreover, Weather Channel founder John Coleman has also weighed in on Nye’s credibility.
“As a man who has studied the science of meteorology for over 60 years and received the AMS (American Meteorological Society’s) ‘Meteorologist of the Year’ award, I am totally offended that Nye gets the press and media attention he does,” Coleman said, according to Climate Depot.
Nye told Salon that he is not advocating for everyone to become a scientist.
“What I tell everybody is vote,” Nye said.

“We don’t want everybody to be a scientist; that would be unwieldy. We need accountants and artists, filmmakers, journalists — but we want everybody to appreciate science,” he added.
