Another misleading story about “climate change”

“Antarctic fur seals feel climate impacts,” shouts BBC headline.
“There has been a significant reduction in the size and the mass of the pups at birth,” explained Dr Jaume Forcada from the British Antarctic Survey (BAS). “We also see the females breeding later in age – at least by one or two years.”
Oh, the poor things. Must be global warming, right?
The study was centered on Bird Island, South Georgia, a British Overseas Territory (BOT) in the South Atlantic that falls within the influence of Antarctic waters.
In their report, the researchers tie the declining performance of the population directly to “a shift in a dominant climate pattern” has affected the supply of the seals’ primary food source – krill.
“A shift in a dominant climate pattern.”
What does that mean? Does that mean colder? Warmer? Murky sentences like that attract my attention.
“The krill come mostly from much further south, carried on currents to the BOT from the Antarctic Peninsula and the western side of the White Continent,” the article continues.
“But sea ice in Antarctica’s western sectors has been in sharp decline in recent years.”
Ah, there you go, sea ice “has been in sharp decline.” Must be global warming.
But here’s the sneaky part.
In parenthesis, almost as an afterthought, the author, Jonathan Amos, adds the following words: “(in contrast to other sectors).”
“In contrast to other sectors.”
You’d certainly never guess from that small parenthetical remark that Antarctic sea-ice extent is now the highest on record.
With this kind of reporting, it’s no wonder that people believe in global warming.
